Welcome Jason!

Millington, Jason.PD.O'Brien.2021.jpg

Jason Millington has joined as a postdoc in the O’Brien and Huang labs. He obtained his Ph.D. in Cell and Developmental Biology from the University of British Columbia in Canada in 2021. In his thesis, he studied the mechanisms underlying sex differences in growth during development in Drosophila, with a particular focus on how dietary nutrition differentially affects growth in males and females. He joined Stanford co-supervised between the O’Brien and Huang labs in October 2021. His research focuses on investigating how the cells of the gut interact with gut microbes.

Welcome!

Sun, Miriam_GS.O'Brien.2021.jpg

Hsuan-Te (Miriam) Sun has joined the lab! Miriam is a graduate student in the Developmental Biology Department. She graduated from the California Institute of Technology in the class of 2020 with a B.S. in Biology. At Caltech, she studied cell migration dynamics during Drosophila embryogenesis as an undergraduate researcher in the lab of Dr. Angela Stathopoulos. She is excited to uncover more about dynamic cell behaviors in the adult Drosophila midgut.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Dr. Erin Sanders, PhD, Developmental Biology student who defended and graduated!

Celebration Picnic

The O’Brien Lab celebrated Dr. O’Brien’s promotion to Associate Professor with Tenure with a physically distant picnic.

Welcome!

Anthony.jpg

Dr. Anthony Galenza joins the O’Brien Lab as a postdoc! He obtained his Ph.D. in Immunology from the University of Alberta in Canada in 2020. In his thesis, Anthony studied how diet impacts health, immunity, and lifespan in the Drosophila model. His focus in the O’Brien lab is the mechanisms of morphogenesis during cellular differentiation in adult intestinal tissue.
